Electric Vehicles: Unplugging the Future of Transportation

Electric Vehicles: Unplugging the Future of Transportation

Vehicles aren?t a luxury product for humans; instead they?ve become a necessity for humans. India has a vision of 100% usage of EVs by 2030. Electric Vehicles are gradually gaining their share in automotive industry; it won?t be long before they establish their share. Though there are some uncertainties about it, like are they affordable, reliable and many more. But they?ve proven that they are at-least equitable if not greater than the Engines. EVs have a major feature that they can be charged from an off-board electric power source. There are numerous benefits of having EVs like, they are low maintenance. Servicing of EVs is much cheaper than the conventional petrol/diesel car. They are also environment friendly i.e. less pollution. While choosing to drive an EV, you are helping to keep the air clean. It also adds a great advantage to our health like zero amount of harmful exhaust emission which further leads to clean air means better air quality and this will lead to better and long life. EVs are also economic friendly as they reduce your fuel costs. Though EVs have many strong and solid benefits, they too have myths. Some of the myths are, are they cheaper from the combustion-engine car? Are they fun to drive? EVs don?t have enough range? EVs are dangerous? These are the common myths which people have. The market for EVs has been tough since they?ve been invented, but according to a study, which shows that the global sale of EVs have rose to about 65% from 2017 to 2018, for a total of 2.1 million vehicles, however 25% decline was recorded due to outbreak of coronavirus pandemic. Despite this setback the demand for EVs is expected to rise. Study also found that EVs will hit 10% of global sale by 2025, rising to 28% in 2030 and 58% in 2040. Acceptance of EVs is still low in comparison to engine cars. India has a vision of 100% usage of EVs by 2030. Though it is always found challenging from consumer point of view for the adoption of the same. Consumers are often anxious about new change and also about the speed and range of EVs. Thus a lot of education is needed to get 100% acceptance from the consumers.
